Kyla Thomas- Cleveland police seek suspect in Facebook homicide video

Summary: This article is about a man who killed more than 13 people over a fight that he had with his girlfriend. Keep in mind, these people were not associated with the ex girlfriend at all. The man, Steve Stephens killed an elderly man in broad daylight at 2pm for no apparent cause at all. The man posted himself shooting the victim on Facebook live and this contributed to why he was identified. The man was driving in an unlicensed car and was considered very dangerous to the police of Cleveland, which is where the incident occurred. Authorities identified the homicide victim as Robert Godwin, 74.Godwin had just left his children's home for Sunday Easter dinner when he walked home and was shot. His family describes him as a man who wouldn't hurt a soul.

Analysis: To me, this is a hate crime. Many people may see this as black on black crime, but one would only commit such an act out of absolute hate. What disappoints me even more was not only that the victim was 74 years old, but he had no idea what was going on. He knew nothing of the woman that made the killer upset. He knew nothing of the kind of man the shooter was and innocently greeted him as the man walked by. This crime happened on the worse day possible: Easter-- after he had just seen his family. In relation to history, this minimally reminds me of the Trayvon Martin incident where an unarmed black man was shot by a white police. The only way it is similar is that someone who was innocent was shot, but the effects that the shooting has still lingers in the hearts in the families of the victims.
