Summary: Taiwan has recently banned the consumption of cat and dog meat by adding an amendment to their animal protection laws. It represents part of progressive reform in Asia to end the brutal trading of dog meat. Before this amendment, Taiwan's Animal Protection Act only included laws against the killing and sale of dog and cat meat, but this amendment specifically prohibits the consumption of the animal meat. Any Taiwanese people who eat the meat could be fined between $1,600 and $8,200. The laws also doubled their prison sentence for animal cruelty. It is said that Taiwan is sending a message to China and South Korea, where millions of dogs are slaughtered for consumption and trading.
Analysis: This article was written on April 12, 2017, by Serenitie Wang, to tell about the progress Taiwan has made in their animal protection laws. This is a really good sign of development in Asia, and it's great to see them protecting the animals in their community. It's important that we take care of our animals instead of treaty them with cruelty and it's awesome that Taiwan has made such a progressive development.
Synthesis: The first United States law protecting animals was HMSA, passed in 1958.
