Elizabeth McCullough- Alabama Governor steps down

Synopsis: The Governor of Alabama Robert Bentley has officially resigned. This decision is no doubt related to the recent scandal surrounding the politician, and the threat of impeachment. Bentley is suspected to have carried on an affair with one of his former staffers, and strong evidence has been discovered to support that allegation. Not only that, but there is proof that Bentley used state funds to cover up such activities. His resignation did not come as a surprise to many.

Analysis: What's really outrageous about this is that he refused to accept that he had screwed himself. There are taped phone calls, text messages, and countless witnesses to his actions, and all he admits to is verbal advances toward the woman involved. It's like dude, you messed up, can we move on now? It's time to face the music, you got caught.

Synthesis: This event is like a small scale Clinton-Lewinsky situation. Clinton had what he described as an "inappropriate" relationship with his staff member Monica Lewinsky. Like Bentley, the now former president faced impeachment, and the tarnishing of his reputation.

  1. it is upsetting how some people can't take responsibility for their actions. i think his reputation wouldn't be as ruined if he had been mature and owned up to his actions, instead of cowering and giving up. -tessa ward

  2. This is not an appropriate way to handle this situation at all. He could have handled much better.

  3. Elizabeth, or anyone who knows about the situation, what was the cause for the possible impeachment, and later resignation? I'm not very up-to-date.
