The editorial board of the New York Times wrote on Obama's presence at the Summit of the Americas in Panama. This is where the countries in the Americas the discuss their trade agreements that are in place or establish new ones.
This can be compared to the dollar diplomacy of the late 1800's. The US has changed its policies drastically since then and these meetings are representative of that.
