The Ellis Island's historic importance well known to most Americans, especially in New York where is impact was the greatest. It was the port that accepted the majority of America's Immigrants. This article by the Associated Press talks about it repairs since Hurricane Sandy. A company in New Jersey called "The Boonton" has renovated and restored this historic landmark. It is interesting how so many people are proud of this landmark yet are against immigration, the same way many people were against letting immigrants in through Ellis Island.
