In alignment with routine protocol, the U.S. Special Forces
training is being held in Texas this year. However, many Republican fanatics
have developed a theory that this training is purely a cover-up for Obama to
put Texas under martial law. As bizarre as this theory sounds, the Governor of
Texas, Greg Abbott, appealed to these arguments by ordering the Texas National
Guard to monitor the U.S. special forces training.
This action by Greg Abbott has sparked a controversy about
how a governor, an executive governmental office, could appease this select
group of radicals by using the Texas National Guard to oversee a regular
Special Forces training, despite the ridiculous nature of their request. Many,
especially liberals and democrats, believe that the act abused the sanctity of
the government office, and encouraged the belief that our president, our
country’s national leader, would impose martial law over Texas which gives
radicals too much control over the government. This article relates to U.S. history because it shows an example of how executive power can be abused which makes the check and balance system counterproductive.
