After running from authorities for forty years, Clarence Moore has gotten away with the robbery he committed in North Carolina. Only being 66 years old, he could have went to a different state or left the country, picked up an alias, and started a new life for himself. There was only one problem with that plan, however: he turned himself in.
In need of desperate health care, Moore called the police to surrender so he could receive the medical attention he desperately needed. Even with a fake identity, Moore would need an existing social security number to be able to access healthcare and since he did not have either, he found it easier to turn himself into the authorities so at least he wouldn't die of a disease. Police said he was crying tears of joy when he was being escorted to the hospital and thanked the officers for their kindness.
All throughout our history, there has been the stereotype of the "dumb criminal" and this partially qualifies as this type of story. I don't think something extremely similar to Mr. Moore's case has happened previously in the country, but there is always a first for everything.
