Bounce house injuries are not uncommon. Two boys from upstate New York were seriously injured last year after falling nearly two stories when a gust of wind swept up the house in which they were playing. A study by Dr. Gary Smith of the Nationwide Children's Hospital found that the number of bounce house-related injuries rose 1,500% from 1995 to 2010.
There are currently no national safety guidelines for inflatable bounce houses.
Continental US weather patterns have been pretty unpredictable lately. Texas, for example, has gotten an upsurge of torrential rain, as it seems has the entire Southeast. It's frightening that the bounce house blew away so easily; it would seem that such a popular children's structure would be more cautiously regulated under a certain sect of the American government.
This is a terrifying matter to think about. The safety guidelines and construction for bounce houses need to be looked over and edited to accommodate for the rising number of accidents associated with them. Especially with the recent weather we've had in Texas, people should be cautious when renting these structures.
ReplyDeleteThis is certainly a precaution that needs to be thought out more seriously, and possibly implemented through safety regulations such as proper foundations and grounding requirements for all bounce houses. Especially with the more unpredictable weather as of lately, these things much be accounted for.
