North Carolina College Shooting by Corran Nolan

There has been a shooting today at Wayne Community College. The gunmen is said to have shot the school's print shop operator, who died of his wounds. Though all the buildings were subsequently cleared, some with tear gas, the white, bald, 5'1'' man is said to still be at large. The victim was a long-time employee at the school, and some of the other employees identified the shooter as Kenneth Stancil, a former student who did not graduate. Stancil's motives are not yet known, but the school president Kay Ablertson says "our hearts are heavy at the loss of an employee -- a valued employee -- and we will soon be reaching out to the family."

This article's importance stems from the fact that, once again, there has been a shooting at a school. Though this seems to have become a common occurrence, one should remember that it has not always been so. To tie it in to APUSH right now, the heightened frequency of terrorist attacks and domestic -- especially school -- shootings shows the effects of some American decisions in the past 50 years. This is the same sort of lawlessness that Nixon ran his campaign against, though, to be fair, the 60's were much more violent than the world of today, though this may have the same outcome.
