Hillary 2016! -Myles Bennett

Former First Lady and Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, will be running for president int he 2016 presidential election. This was not an unexpected announcement, she has been hinting at the idea of running for a short while now. She is an advocate for the middle class by showing images of all races, genders, ages, and even sexual orientations in her campaign video. I think it is important for us to be aware of what candidates are campaigning for as we (well, most of us reading this blog) approach the legal age to vote in the next presidential election.

Analysis: Women and gender roles have come a long way since the 1800s and the beginning of the feminist movement at Seneca Falls. Women now make up over half the population of the United States and almost half of the work force. Only in 1920 did women get the basic right men were given with the establishment of our country and its government system. Now, a woman is campaigning and competing to be able to control a myriad of controversial topics dealing with women, such as birth control and abortion, as well as other equally important topics dealing with national security and foreign affairs. Two hundred years later, women are taking on an equally important job in society as before, but now have many more rights and are allowed to more freedom.

  1. It is exciting that there is a distinct possibility of a woman President in 2016! Though, admittedly, I still have my fingers crossed for Elizabeth Warren to announce that she will be running as well.
