Nia Edwards 4th period Volcanic island eats another

Nia Edwards
4th period

It has been reported that one Japanese Island has swallowed another. A volcano which came through the surface of the ocean last November (Niijima) has combined with a nearby island formed from a volcano that appeared and erupted 40 years ago(Nishinoshima). Niijima emerged 500 meters from the other island in November. It is now 60 meters above sea level. "The island sits on the Pacific "ring of Fire' which stretches from the coast of Chile north to Alaska and Siberia and then south to New Zealand.

That is so weird how one island can just emerge out of the ground and attach to another. I find it kind of cool that it started out 500 meters away just in November then they are combined as one.
