The GOP goofs up on race — again - Yahoo News
(Written by Jon Terbush from The Week) To start this month's political drama we look at a improperly worded tweet from the Republican National Committee, which was meant to pay respect to Rosa Parks' 58th anniversary of her historic arrest.
"Today we remember Rosa Parks' bold stand and her role in ending racism. " (pic.twitter.com/uxIj1QmtkU
— RNC (@GOP) December 1, 2013)
The wording of the tweet drew immediate attention because of the claim that Rosa Parks' had "ended" racism.
The Republican National Committee tweeted a correction soon after:
Previous tweet should have read "Today we remember Rosa Parks' bold stand and her role in fighting to end racism."
(— RNC (@GOP) December 1, 2013)
Claiming racism is over is likely a huge mistake by the NRC and the Committee understands that racism is still present. And most voters know that racism is far from being a thing of the past.
'A 2008 Gallup survey found that a majority of Americans believed racism against blacks was "widespread" in America.'Along with blacks, Hispanics in America, as well as Muslims and women show the common threat of inequality.
This article proves that even our "brightest" political figures don't think before they tweet. I figure that if you want to properly honor someone that you wouldn't make a major grammatical error.
