I
read the article, Draining The Daring
From A High School Production of ‘Rent’, by Scott Simon. This article
explores an issue in Turnbull, Conn involving a high school principal
cancelling a production of Rent
because of “challenging issues.” While the issue itself isn’t a huge national
concern, this story is very relevant to young artists like us. The debate goes
on as an opera house has offered their stage for the production.
I
believe that as high school students, the cast has the maturity to perform a
show with controversial themes and some of the most revolutionary art comes
from young people. It will be interesting to see how the school will respond.
What do you think?
