Summary: On Monday, former San Diego mayor Bob Filner was sentenced to three months of house arrest and three years of probation and fines totaling up to around $1500. Filner, age 71, didn't even serve nine months in office and resigned in August. He originally pleaded guilty in October to charges of false imprisonment and battery after three different women accused him of inappropriate conduct at fundraisers and other public events. Th women have not been identified. Filner's house arrest will begin on January 1st and he will have to wear a GPS tracking device to monitor his whereabouts. Filner is a former 10-term congressman and was serving his first term as mayor. San Diego's city council president will serve as acting mayor until the special run-off election of two city council members early next year.
Analysis: This whole story is gross. I'm glad that Filner was sentenced to house arrest for his actions. I do agree with the judge's sentencing of house arrest instead of actual jail time because the article states that his inappropriate actions were mostly just kissing the women as opposed to something worse. I hope that Filner learns his lesson and apologizes to the women and everyone else effected by this scandal.
