As the one year anniversary of the shooting of 20 children and 6 adults at Sandy Hook Elementary approaches, the residents of Newtown have asked the media to respect their privacy as they continue their grieving. In one of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history, the gunmen first shot the 26 people before turning the gun on himself. The shooting spurred Obama's push for gun control, which was eventually shot down by the Senate. The people of Newtown simply ask for everyone to be respectful of the fact that they are still in a time of mourning over this awful tragedy.
I was horrified by what happened in Newtown, and the residents request for the media to stay out while they continue to try and cope with this devastation is completely valid and should be respected. It's understandable that they find the media coverage imposing and if it gives them greater discomfort, then there's no acceptable reason to not follow their wishes. I know that their pain and loss will never fully heal, but I hope that it will lessen with time as the rest of America mourns with them in this coming week.

My heart goes out to the families. I can't believe it's already been one year since they lost their children.
ReplyDeleteI hope that the media respects their wishes and stays out of Newtown on this one year anniversary. I can't imagine how hard it must be for all of the families of the victim's on this anniversary and my thoughts go out to them as they continue to mourn the loss of their loved ones.
