Former teen model Georgina Wilkin, 23, has struggled with anorexia since she was eight years old. She was a model for three years but then quickly realized it wasn't with the starvation to stay skinny. Model scouts told her it was imperative that she lose a couple of inches from her hips to be able to book jobs in Japan and that's where it all started. The model scouts shooed away girls that weren't skinny enough and that's where the pressure set in.
This article reminds me of a documentary called, "Girl Model" that is about the struggles of modeling and how anorexia is intertwined with it. There is no way for girls or women to escape the pressure to look a certain way. Toothpicks are in. it's very sad that society sees this as beautiful because no matter what size you are, you're pretty. Modeling puts the idea in your head that the skinnier you are the more appealing you become which is not true. Girls, especially young girls, should at the most try to be healthy because that is good for you but not to the extreme of eating less to satisfy society and what they say is 'beautiful.'

ReplyDeleteWow, it's so sad how we can let society tell us how we should look and act and it's so alarming that societies idea of beauty can certainly harm us!
