"US fire officials see danger in paper sky lanterns" - Natalie H. - Class 2

Sky lanterns are enjoyed for many festivities and ceremonies around the world, but US fire officials want them banned. This article was written by Norma Love and published on Yahoo! News exactly 10 hours ago.

The lanterns are a fun way for celebration, but the officials say that it’s all fun and games untitled someone gets hurt. Although they are designed to only come down when the wick is no longer burning, it could possibly catch fire by accident.

News of lanterns being banned has taken place, particularly in New Hampshire, where most of lantern fires have occurred. Rye Fire Chief Skip Sullivan said that when you light these and send them off, it is an open fire you're sending off. "When these things come down, are these people going to clean up the mess they leave behind?" He asked.

Who knows? Will they? Will they take responsibility for what they choose to do, regardless of what happens? We have fireworks on the 4th of July, which result in one or two forest fires. There are still children that go missing on Halloween, yet we still celebrate it every single year. But in the end, we still celebrate, and we are as cautious as possible. So maybe we should trust that there will be provisions for paper lanterns, him? Just a thought.
