"Miley Cyrus is an addict." This is how the article begins, setting a seemingly condescending tone for the rest of the piece by Dean Obeidallah. Obeidallah claims that Miley Cyrus craves and is addicted to fame. The author seemed to have a clear purpose of calling Miley out: to do something to benefit society with her rising fame.
After stating little to no concrete facts, points, or observations, the Obeidallah juxtapositions the ever-wild Lady Gaga with the free-spirited Miley Cyrus. Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus could be compared, but for what? Lady Gaga has established herself in the business for a longer period of time, and Miley is just now coming out with her new image. There is not enough history behind the both of them to compare. Just because both Miley and Gaga do and say outlandish (but not even really that outlandish) things doesn't mean that they are in any way better or worse than another.
This "opinion" was disappointing to say the least. While I am a biased Miley Cyrus admirer, I respect what Gaga does. I accept the fact that not everyone likes Miley as a person. However, it is easy to see that this "opinion" is poorly supported and seems to be poorly written. It is as if the author noticed a pattern on Miley Cyrus stories and decided, "Hey, let me write one about her, too! I hate her just as much as everyone else does! What she did at the VMA's was unacceptable!" I wouldn't be surprised if he/she soon tok back what they said, "You guys like her, now? Oh...she's a great performer! Very influential!"
I would also like to point out that at the beginning of the article, there is a timeline of Miley's transformation to what she is now. This is a childish, weak attempt to justify whatever opinions you have of anyone.
Yes, she changed.
People often do.
Yes, she used to be on Disney Channel.
She is not anymore.
Oh man, her brunette hair used to be killer!
Well, so is her blonde/brunette mix.
Now, keep in mind that opinions do not have to be proved. There does not have to be a sound reason why a person has an opinion that they do. It just makes the opinion seem weak. If you're going to speak yours, expect people to counter them...especially if your argument is weak. You do not have to argue back. Your opinion is yours alone.
And I am aware that this article is not serious. I do not care. And it does bring up a good point about representing something that will help the world.

I agree that people will have opinions and I even hold my own. But one thing. Do people really think that their opinions matter that much? Well then that is sad because hey, Miley doesn't know you, therefore she doesn't give a crap abou you. Tough love and at the end of the day Miley is still Miley. I also, don't know why we are judging her so much when PEOPLE CHANGE. Big or small, it happens. What? Do you want her to be same ole Miley? Because I thought she was a little boring before hand. I am guilty of judging her, but reading this article made me think from a different standpoint. Nice job Maddie!
ReplyDeleteI think that too many people have an opinion with Miley Cyrus and that's just what she wants. She wants everyone to be talking about her and her new look and all of the new things she is doing. I'm not saying that i agree with what she is doing now, but these opinions are what she wants from the media.
ReplyDeleteGood grief, she's a grown woman now, she can do what she wants and it's not anyone else's job to whine about how she should be someone else. If I care about the VMA thing at all it's only because I hate Robin Thicke but that's a whole other thing. Also, her new hair is totally killer. Also, celebrities have been pulling "outlandish" stunts since there have been celebrities. This isn't new stuff at all and I don't know why people are taking her choices as personal offenses to them.
