People waited hours in the cold for a Thanksgiving turkey from a Fort Worth food bank on Monday.
The Community Food Bank of Fort Worth annually hands out turkeys to
people in need so they can have a Thanksgiving meal. But lines on Monday
in near-freezing temperatures were the longest in recent years.
Officials estimated 1,200 people lined up for 400 turkeys and 250 hams.
People began lining up at 5 a.m. on Monday and at one point the line
stretched up to seven blocks to get a turkey. the food bank eventually
had to cut the line off and ask people to come back on Tuesday.
Officials with the food bank said a sluggish economy and new food stamp rules caused the increase in needy families. The food bank said it expects to serve double the number of families it served in 2012.
I think its truly wonderful that the food bank gives away turkeys to those who cannot provide for them selves or need more help than other. That's enough to be thankful for right there. I agree that the rocky economy and cut back off of food stamps has help increase in the number of pep;e who were in line. I just hole that everyone's is able to have a wonderful, safe, and blessed Thanksgiving.
