Gloria Jones: Sandy Hook Killer Took Motive To His Grave

After many months of investigation no motive of the Sandy Hook shooter has been uncovered. In this article I learned that he had Aspergers. He was describes as having no emotions or even a connection to his mother. He isolated himself in his bedroom not allowing anyone in, and kept information and documentation of suicide shooting and shooting that were targeted at children.
It goes without saying that this man was extremely mental ill. I cannot fathom how someone could begin to harm so many children and innocents. It is still heartbreaking. Yet, I do wonder if there is a way to reach out to people like him. In a way they seem so hopeless. I mean how can you work with an emotionless person, but how can you just let them be. It is an extreme catch 22 to figure out between what is just, what is safe, what is needed to ensure the safety of our civilians without stripping the liberties of those misconstrued as harmful (and in reality are harmless).  This incident is completely unforgivable, yet you have to wonder how "in control" of his actions was he.

  1. I'm relly glad you are looking at the shooters side as well. Most people like to just attack, and will never admit that it's not anybody's fault 100%.

  2. The mental illness issue that is associated with various shootings that have happened throughout the past several years is something that has been heavy on my mind. Your definitely right with the fact dealing with the mentally ill, especially this kind of mental illness, is an extremely difficult task. Our minds and thoughts have such a powerful influence over what we do if we allow them to. Those who are unable to control their actions need to have people to help them and treat them.

    1. Yeah, I mean we are absolutely ruled by our thoughts. Not only does it control what we do, but it controls the justification of our actions. And in all honesty, if we can justify something then in our truth it is right. For someone who has no emotions, no morals then, literally, anything goes.

  3. I really like that you had put the point of view from his side because many people might be like him and it's scary that no know could know what would happen to them. Plus even though he killed many children it's not entirely his fault.

  4. You bring up a really good point of how we could possibly help or reach out to these types of people. Not only are they a danger to others, but these people are leading unhappy lives because of their mental illnesses. It seems like with all the technology and knowledge these days, there would be a more effective way of helping people who suffer like this, and hopefully this situation can prevent other acts of violence in the future, as well as aid for those who suffer mental illness.

  5. I am so happy that you took the time to actually consider the shooters point of view and considered his mental illness as a relevant factor. I am sure that he had many mental illness issues that helped lead him to his terrible actions. I did notice that you mentioned Aspergers and would like to include that there is no scientific evidence that links Aspergers to violence and lack of emotion is also not necessarily a side effect of Aspergers. Thanks for the great post.
