She refused to change her clothes after the assassination and didn't take it off until she reached the white house. 'No, I'm going to leave these clothes on. I want them to see what they have done,' she remarked when they suggested she change. Jackie Kennedy did not wear the suit again. In fact, it was never even washed. The suit was donated to the United States by her daughter, Caroline, with the promise that they wouldn't display it for a very long time.
50 years after the Kennedy assassination and Jackie Kennedy's suit has still not been seen since that fateful day. In fact, the Kennedy's refuse to allow it to be seen until 2103. No joke. The World has to wait another 90 years until they'll allow the bloody suit to go on display. It remain in the National archives of Maryland being kept between the temperatures of 65 and 68 and as of thus far, the U.S. is keeping good on its promise to not display it for another 90 years.

The JFK assassination is truly one of the most devastating events in American history and I am happy that they are choosing to remember the tragedy in this way.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a really good thing that they aren't putting her pink outfit on display. By putting it on display it would make it more about profit than the story behind it, since it would likely go on display in a museum that charged people to see it. It would take away from the emotional aspect of it. It's a good way to honor but still preserve the dignity and integrity of the Kennedy family.
