This
article, by Alan Duke, profiles the last month of Olivia Wise’s life. She
passed away about a week ago after battling a terminal brain tumor for nearly 2
years. In September, her recording of Katy Perry’s “Roar” went viral and got
the hit singer’s attention. The video of Wise in the recording studio helped
bring in thousands of dollars for the Liv Wise Fund, the foundation that was
started in her name to raise money for research on brain tumors. Wise’s family
posted another video a few days before her death. It was a song called “Simple
Girl” that Olivia wrote when she was 11 about how she wanted to live her life.
She only sang it once: the day she recorded “Roar.”
When
I saw this story, I knew it had to be the one I wrote about because I had
already written about the previous article about her life. Stories like this
one help to show the fleeting nature of life and make us more aware of what we
do because you only get 1 chance. I am so sorry for the family because they
lost someone so young with so much life left to live. It’s awful to see that
she died, but I hope the popularity of her cover of “Roar” will continue to
bring in money for the critical research on brain tumors.
This story is so touching. I'm very sad to hear that Olivia has died but her memory will live long through her songs and her legacy. I hope that her story helps to attract more interest in the field of medicine and helping to find a cure for illnesses like hers.
ReplyDeleteSame here, hopefully the song helps to raise awareness and fuel the groundbreakers' passions to cure cancer.
DeleteThis is a very touching story. It is so sad that such young people have to battle illnesses like this. It just doesn't seem fair. I hope your legacy continues. I would like to hear the song she sang.
ReplyDeleteI just watched a video about cancer and how very little funds go to kids. Its crazy how people like us go our whole lives complaining about the simple things while children like her just want to live to 30. Crazy how something so simple can put your life into prospective.
