Sandy Hook report sheds no light on motive : Felicia Padilla 5th period

Today, a summary of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting was released by the District attorney of Connecticut. The summary doesn't reveal any surprises about the mass shooting, it just goes further in depth into the motive of Adam Lanza, the shooter who killed 26 people at an elementary school. The report concludes that Lanza first killed his mom in her house before making his way to the school. Lanza forced his way into the elementary school before killing 20 students and 6 administrators. The shooting occurred Dec. 14th 2012, so the 1 year memorial of the shooting is coming soon. Adam Lanza was 20 years old when he committed this horrible act. The report, which doesn't identify a motive for Adam Lanza, does say that he acted alone (which most people already knew.) Lanza turned a fun on himself, which furthers the confusion over his motive. We do know that Lanza had some serious mental illness, and that the crime was premeditated, but we are not sure if his mental state was the only contributer to him killing 20 children. Reporters can only assume that he chose Sandy Hook only because of its propinquity to where Lanza lived. The report goes over how Lanza played violent video games, going to the shooting range, and building computers. However, in direct contrast to these he also played nonviolent games, and spent most of his time playing dance dance revolution. Apparently, Lanza also kept a detailed report of other mass shootings over the past years. The month leading up to the shooting, Lanza only communicated with his mother through email, even though they lived in the same house. Details from the report also say that Lanza didn't enjoy birthdays or holidays. No one was allowed in Lanza's room, he didn't like loud noises, didn't show emotion, and was scared of getting his hair cut. So far, the 911 calls haven't been released to the public, even though we have asked for them so we can judge the response of the police because they are said to be too gruesome.

A family member of a teacher killed in the shooting has said that there is nothing in these reports released that can tell them how they can live without the person who was shot. I agree with this, even though it may tell the general public of how, it doesn't answer why. This is a question that will never be answered.
