On October 4, 2013, 21-year old LaKivia Dorrough and 10-year
old Keimaya Robertson were packing boxes for an upcoming move when a drive-by
shooting injured them. The two girls were listening to the radio and dancing
when LaKivia heard what she thought was fireworks at about 7:40 p.m. She then
saw smoke and ran toward the front door. She says, “I thought it was just a
paintball, I looked down and I saw I’m bleeding, then I looked over at her and
I saw it hit her too.” The bullet was shot through the window, two interior
walls, LaKivia’s left ankle, then Keimaya’s left ankle, and finally stopped in
the carpet. The gunman is still on the run but the victims’ mother says she
knows the shooter. She said a friend had lived with them for a month. The
mother told police that she thinks the woman’s ex-boyfriend is to blame. "When
I saw the gunshots coming through this window right here, I knew it was the
room she used to sleep in, and when she slept, she slept right across this
window right here where it has the most bullets.” Dallas police have conducted
interviews with neighbors and family as well as shell casings and fingerprints.
Police records show that there was an assault at the same address a month ago
that fits the description the family gave of the suspect and his girlfriend who
lived with them. They are hoping to make the connection and find the suspect
soon.
This is a really scary thing to think about. Most people
want to feel like they are safe inside their own home but when things like this
happen, that feeling is compromised. It’s sad to me that the ex-boyfriend wasn’t
even targeting the two girls but they were injured anyways. Today’s society is
so dramatic. One person makes us mad and then we decide to go shoot their
house. That of logic is absolutely ridiculous and I hope that one day, people
actually realize that.

ReplyDeleteWow..this really makes us wonder if we're really "safe" or not..considering ultimately our safest place is our home.
DeleteThat is a very good connection. I agree that you should feel really safe in your home and its scary that someone could simply hurt you while youre in it.
