Without a boarding pass, parent, or luggage, a nine-year old boy slipped through security at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport and flew on a plane to Las Vegas. The boy was screened through airport security at around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday and left on the Delta Air Lines flight to Las Vegas at 11:15 a.m. It remains unclear why the boy tried to fly from Minneapolis to Las Vegas in the first place. Crew members became suspicious of him during the flight and contacted Las Vegas police. Officers took him into custody when the plane landed.
This story raises several questions about airline and airport security. I cannot imagine how any airport personnel would not be suspicious of a nine-year old maneuvering about without an adult or luggage. That deeply concerns me for the safety of children in airports. No parent in their right mind would let their unaccompanied minor get through all stages of screening and boarding by themselves. Second, I think it was careless on the airline's part to let anyone "sneak" on the plane without a boarding pass.

This is crazy! I was just traveling in an airport by myself going from Texas to Las Angeles and it was still scary for me. I can't imagine a 9 year old boy doing that. My mom was also worried about me being in an airport by myself for the first time and I can't even begin to think of how that mother felt when she found out her son had flew all the way to Las Vegas. Security in airport or anywhere needs to be more aware of things.
ReplyDeleteThat is worrisome! I can't believe that no one in the airport noticed anything suspicious before he boarded the plane. I hope this causes security to be more careful about making sure people have the proper paperwork to board the airplane.
ReplyDeleteI dont really know what to say about this one well because, Im not surprised, soon we might 7 year olds going around doing whatever..Our country is starting not to care for one another, something we were originally founded on....but we will serve the consequences.
ReplyDeleteChildren, especially boys, love to take risks. It is apart of growing up and learning in life. However, a parent, knowing this, should be extra cautious when walking through a large public place such as an airport. This article will help to not only improve airport security further by exposing a flaw, but also help parents to keep a more vigilant eye on their children.
