Airport Evacuated- Umair Nasser 1st Period

Jacksonville Airport was evacuated due to suspicious packages turning up in the terminal and parking garage yesterday. The police are unable to confirm if they have made any arrests regarding this case. The airport said in a tweet from its official account Tuesday evening that the evacuation was due to "police activity regarding suspicious packages.'' Witnesses saw a man being taken away a the security checkpoint.

This article makes me feel unsafe as a traveler. My family travels often, making connections through random cities around the world, and for this to be an issue in the USA after the countless security changes we have done to intensify the safety measures at our airports in quite disappointing. This matter should have been handled stealthily so that a whole airport wouldn't have to be evacuated. If this had happened to me, I would be more upset about the inconvenience of missing my flight, than happy about my safety. At the end of the day, the airline business is all about making traveling easy and convenient for the customer. This event may result in some airlines pulling out of their reserved gates at the Jacksonville Airport. I hope airports world-wide look at this as a learning experience, and a chance to triple check their safety plans.

  1. That's very shady, especially since i lived in Jacksonville and know much of the airport. It is smaller making it an easier target however

  2. I completely agree.. This would make me feel unsafe as well but at least the government is making efforts to ensure EVERYONES safety in the entire airport because you never know what can happen nowadays

  3. I agree. It is so difficult to travel these days and it is upsetting to know how things can happen anywhere.

  4. I agree with you. I'm sure the government and TSA are doing everything possible to make things safe, however I think they need to think about the convenience and satisfaction of all the other travelers as well.
