Record-High Floods in Nebraska Breach Levees and Isolate Towns

Along the Mississippi River in the midwest, record high flooding is occurring, causing evacuations and isolating neighborhoods and towns. These record high river levels were seen in at least 28 different locations, specifically in Nebraska and Iowa. At least one man has died in Omaha due to a bridge collapsing on him when trying to save another person trapped in the flooding. Waters from the Niobrara River had ripped through a dam releasing ice, rocks, and large amounts of water. The city of Fremont, Nebraska currently resembles an island, surrounded by flood water. The southeast part of the Offutt Air Force Base was flooded, but the rest was unaffected. Many have worked to place sandbags and barriers to prevent the flooding from entering more homes. Officials are unsure how many homes have been damaged at this time.
I think this event is a great example of a tragedy that is being handled very appropriately and people are taking action and precaution to what it could have turned into. People are immediately evacuating and working to stop the flooding rather than completely panicking and allowing destruction to take place. I think this is comparable to the recent fires in California where these precautions were not taken in the city of Paradise, many homes were destroyed and the only option was to try to evacuate when there were no precautions taken.
I hope everyone safely recovers
