Government Shutdown stops FDA food safety inspections- Maya Friedmann

The current government shutdown has stopped most food safety inspection, but the FDA is planning to resume the more important ones soon. Since they don’t have people to spare, the FDA is prioritizing which foods are more necessary to be inspected. Companies can still inspect their own food and the FDA is still announcing recalls, but our food isn’t something we shouldn’t be precautious about.
This article was written to spread awareness about the government shutdown and how it really is affecting everyone. The shutdown is a complete waste of time and money, and now it’s becoming a possible safety issue for people. I personally do not feel comfortable consuming food that isn’t inspected by the FDA. This also relates back to the meat inspection act of 1906 because of how little regulation there was on peoples food.
