Father heartbroken by video of bus aide slapping daughter, 6 ( 1st Period)- Kyla Thomas
Summary: This article is about a autistic girl who got slapped in the face by a bus aide. The girl's father's response was mostly what influenced this article. When he first found out about it, he says that he was heart broken. The 6 year old girl, Kaylee, is autistic and she spit on the bus driver. This action is what provoked the bus driver to slap the girl. It has been revealed that it was only the bus driver's second week at the job and this contributed to her not knowing how to handle this situation. While Kaylee didn't suffer from any physical injuries, this event has had an impact on the way she interacts with strangers.
Analysis: I understand that this was only the bus driver's second week on the job, but in no way shape or form should a bus driver respond to any situation by slapping a child, especially an autistic child. This action will more than likely have an impact on Kaylee's entire family as far as allowing her to interact with people in public places. In relation to history, this reminds me of Rosa Park's experience on public transportation. Rosa Parks however stood up for rights as an African American even though she endured punishment for sitting in the front of a bus. Similarly, Kaylee's presence on the bus should spark a raise in awareness to poor treatment of people with disabilities.

This is just sad, there should be certain rules and procedures to go through for situations like this so that they will know. At the same time it's common sense. First off, she's a child. -JADA BROWN

ReplyDeleteI agree with Jada, this is common sense, everyone should know it isn't okay to slap a child. This person should already know how to handle a situation like this.
