Summary:
The first woman to ever run the Boston Marathon has just completed it for a second time, 50 years later. The first time she ran, she was a 20 year old journalism student. Now 70 years old, Kathrine Switzer wore her same exact number from 1967 and crossed the finish line again. Her average time for a mile was just 10 minutes, and even stopped for interviews along the way. Switzer began a movement, advocating for women's sports all across the world. She later expressed how life changing her experience was for her and for other women all around the US over a phone call with a news station.
Analysis:
I never knew that she was the first woman to run the Boston Marathon! I think that this is amazing, and ties in with the Women's Rights Movement that we have been learning about in APUSH all year. I think that she is a strong woman, and very lucky to be healthy enough to be running the same marathon at age 70.
