Summary:

Chuck Davis ("Baba Chuck"), who died on Sunday, is. being remembered not just for his contributions to dance, but for many hugs and blessings of peace he bestowed during his decades of teaching.

Baba Chuck formed the African American Dance Ensemble in 1983, and in addition to his work as a teacher and performer, he was also known for his presence at public events.  He stressed the importance of respect for the elders and tradition.  No one left from being in his immediate presence without a hug.

Baba Chuck originally wanted to go into Nursing.  He worked in a local hospital for a while then started his Chuck Davis Dance Company in 1967, and in 1977, became an instructor with the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York.

Analysis:

This article was written by Cliff Bellamy.  It was a well written article presenting the life of a very iconic and legendary figure.  I have never read any other articles by the author.  I chose to write about this current event because Baba Churck made some historical moves in Dance that will live on for generations to come.  His impact on the dance world was a personal one as I was able to dance under his teaching the past two summers.  He will always be an important piece of US History and my life.  Rest easy Baba Chuck.
