Isabella Bruner-Rare Brain Parasite Spread in Hawaii

The rare brain parasite, known as rat lungworm disease, is spreading in Hawaii. The state has already confirmed 9 cases of the parasite. The people who contracted the disease are 4 from Maui, 3 on Hawaii Island, and two newlyweds from California. This disease effects the brain and spinal cord. This case is spreading more and more, little by each year. To stop even more of the spread, heath departments in Hawaii recommend that you don't pick up snails and slugs with bare open hands, or at least boiled if planning to eat.

This article talks about the small epidemic in Hawaii with a rare disease. This article was written by Curt Mills on April/1/2017. Even though this article shouldn't affect me so much, it is. I went to Maui for my summer vacation and I loved it! There are some parts that are very wet and humid, perfect for snails and slugs. Although I never saw any of them, I'm sure they're around everywhere. People need to be more careful with the environment that they are in and what is necessary for protection against parasites or diseases.
