Old Man Climbing Mt. Everest Marisa Vasquez

The attempt of 85-year-old, Min Bahadur Sherchan, trying to reclaim his title of the oldest person to climb Mount Everest has brought back earlier concerns on whether an age limit should be required to climb the mountain. On Saturday afternoon, Sherchan died of a heart attack, according to the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA). Tshering Sherpa, president of the NMA, explained that although Sherchan was in very good health and was used to walking rather far amounts, age is a big factor in this. An individual has to be at least 16 years of age to climb the mountain, but there is no age limit beyond that. Sherpa claims that they've been planning on setting one for quite some time, and there's definitely a reason now. They said it might be a while before its possible, but it is now on their minds.

Before reading this article, I had heard of many stories climbing to Mount Everest. However, I had never heard of someone climbing at this age. Although I believe it is important and very cool that Sherchan was trying to accomplish something so grand and extravagant at his age, I think it's crucial that you take precautions with such a dangerous and risky task. Also, even though it prohibits a group of people from pursuing something that may be very important to them, I believe that an age limit should be imposed. In the article, it described how climbing Everest is nearly impossible for any human, so age would be a heavy factor on the success of one's climb. I think it would be better and safer to go ahead and put a limit around the age of 75. This article is from CNN, a very reliable source for news and current events in the United States. This event synthesizes to the first climb up Everest in 1953 by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Morgay.
