Tanta, Egypt experiences two bombs- Katie Schuldenberg

On Palm Sunday, two bombs hit two separate Coptic Christian churches in Tanta, Egypt. Fatalities were about 43 people and more than 100 injured. This tragic event resulted in Egypt's president, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, to announce a state of emergency in Egypt and station immediate military aid around the area, mainly guarding important buildings. Declaring state of emergency, though not entirely uncommon, was not in everyone's best interest. In the past, Egyptians have faced major oppression by the measures taken to ensure complete safety, such as strict curfews and increased power in law enforcement. ISIS is responsible for this calamity and fully claimed responsibility.

The situation, though tragic, seems not entirely usual or something that Egypt hasn't faced before. Religious oppression occurs in all sections of the world, and now Northern Africa is fighting for their beliefs. President Trump tweeted in response to the event that he was sorry for the incident and has confidence in Egypt's president to handle it properly. I pray that a resolution is found and the criminals are accounted for the lives they cost.
