Summary: Recently, a man named Dr. David Dao was forced to give up his seat for crew member after he had already boarded the full flight in Chicago. There was a video that was taken of the incident which spread quickly throughout the internet and social media. People were shocked to see the harsh and insincerity of the situation. United Express, the airline he was on, became demolished by this widespread outrage and would be significantly looked down upon. Then, crews could be booked at anytime prior to departure, but now the change was that, “a crew member must make must-ride bookings at least 60 minutes prior to departure.” A united spokeswoman stated that this new regulation was insured to prevent any other situations like Dao’s and hopefully encourage other regulation reviews.
Synthesis: I was curious about this article since I believe to have heard about Dr. David Dao’s incident prior to reading the article. It never occurred to me issues with airlines such as these could cause such a complaint. My dad travels often and I know of some instances where there seems to be confusion or concern about the regulations of airlines. I’m glad someone now is considering to make improvements and look over current regulations that may cause future issues. Just as there was a lot of uncertainty with Richard Nixon’s presidency and his incident with his secret tapes, this article showed how issues like this can influence a lot of skeptical discussion.
