Students at a Kansas high school were doing a journalist report on their new principal. However, as they were researching the principal, Amy Roberston, they found something suspicious about her credentials. She had recorded that she had received a masters and a Ph.D. degree from Corllins University. When the students went to the website, they found that there was not email or phone number listed in order to contact anyone. They contacted the US Department of Education, and they found no evidence that Corllins University was real or operational. After further investigation, the students found several sources showing that Corllins University is a diploma mill, which is an institution that grants diplomas without proof of adequate training, Four days after the students discovered the scam and began questioning her credentials, Amy Robertson resigned from her position.
It is concerning to hear that Amy Robertson could pull such a scam and be hired for a principal's position when even student journalists were able to discover that she is not telling the truth. It really sheds light on the inadequate job that school districts are doing. Another thing that this proves is the power of students. It does not matter what age you are, if you are dedicated and a hard worker, you can solve a mystery just like the student reporters in this article. This connects to when muckrakers would find unscrupulous practices in big corporations and write about them in newspapers, often causing some sort of change in business practices.

This is truly concerning. That the school district did such little research on her can be worrying throughout campuses.
ReplyDeleteWow! Good job to those kids for not letting corruption be unnoticed.
