Kate Pinkerton - Learning you have autism as an adult

Summary - This article is about a woman who was diagnosed with autism at the age of 47. Throughout her life she had been misdiagnosed with eating disorders and anxiety disorders because of a common misunderstanding that only males have autism.  This example of a woman being diagnosed with autism much later in life is not uncommon because the misconception that girls are just supposed to be quiet. Often symptoms are overlooked leading to women to be diagnosed much later in life compared to males.

Analysis - This is a nice article that shows how sometimes women aren't taken seriously in the medical field because they're female. This is interesting because we can see how inaccurate some statistics about autism can be just because of doctors misdiagnosing women because they are women. The article is nice because it shows that you can be a functioning adult with a family life and have autism and it doesn't change that you are a human. This makes me think about how many people go undiagnosed just because someone dismissed their symptoms.
