Grace Schwall-California Today: A Strike Looms in Hollywood

Due to weak health care benefits writers in Hollywood are planning a strike. The strike will occur if health care and wage improvements are not made by May 1st when the writer's contracts are set to renew. This strike is being planned by the Writers Guild of America and will be led by Howard A.  Rodman an active member. The writers feel that they deserve fair treatment because the entire industry relies on their work.

This article was written by Mike McPhate from California Today to communicate the issues being faced in the entertainment world today. I think its good that these writers are standing up to unfair treatment and demanding the rights they deserve. It will be interesting to see the effects and outcomes of the strike if they move forward with it. Their actions can be synthesized to  strikes conducted by labor unions in the Industrial Revolution that demanded rights for workers.

  1. I love your synthesis! These unions are a very important part of our history and the reason for why we have restrictions on labor today.

  2. This is really cool, and I guess it's true when they say history repeats itself.
