Dylan Roof, the white supremacist, who was sentenced to death for killing nine people in Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, pleaded guilty to nine murder charges, three attempted murder charges, and one weapons charge. Before hand, he was sentenced to nine consecutive life sentences and three 30-year sentences. Roof told investigators that he committed the crime because "black people are killing white people every day." Roof sat with the church group in a Bible study class for 40 minutes before shooting more than 75 times and reloading seven times.
analysis:
The article was written by Jay Croft and Tristan Smith, two white men, however, the article is not biased toward Roof. The article was updated today at 3:29 which is super recent and relevant to our lives today. Even though Roof committed the crime in 2015 it is crazy how they're still trying to do what they can for the families affected. I heard about this when it first came out so it's strange that it's still being talked about two years later. You would think that the sentence would be acted upon already And they wouldn't still be listening to his opinion. It is obvious that he committed the crime so it seems pointless to admit to it now. The significance of this article is to show people that Roof is not completely in the dark and is aware of his actions.
I find it amazing how justice is being served for the families that suffered from this attack. People should get driven to do something just for the certain belief that it's wrong because innocent people might get hurt.
