Anna Czyzewski - United Airlines Passenger Dragged from Plane

Summary: On Sunday, after a flight became overbooked, a passenger had to be physically dragged out of the plane. Surprisingly, this is totally legal. When crew members need to take the flight to work in the next destination, passengers are asked if they would voluntarily de-board the plane. If no one chooses to, a process is taken in which every passengers is reviewed to see how much the de-boarding would affect them and then they would be forced to leave. After this man was chosen, he refused, leading to him being dragged arm-and-leg out of the plane.

Analysis: It was wrong of the man to resist, however, it is even more wrong that they had to use force to get him out, and without a second thought too. Involuntary de-boarding has been done in the past, yet it's never kicked up so much dust. It also calls the entire system to question: Is involuntary de-boarding truly fair?

  1. Airlines should be paying more attention to flights that are over booked because no one deserves to be de-boared for the services they paid.
