Isabella Poscente- Girls in Morocco are Arrested for Kissing

Isabella Poscente- Girls in Morocco are Arrested for Kissing

Summary:

Two teenage girls were caught kissing in Morocco and then sentenced for 3 years in jail for homosexuality charges. The two girls (ages 16 and 17) were caught kissing and hugging on a roof. Article 489 is the reason for this cruel law. The article states, "any person who commits a lewd and unnatural act with an individual of the same sex may be sentenced to six months to three years of imprisonment." They are going to trial and will fight against article 489 for their freedom.

Analysis/Synthesis:

The article was written by CNN Arabic Staff and posted on CNN. I had no prior knowledge of this specific event and I did not even know that it was illegal to kiss the same sex in other countries. The point the article was trying to convey is how absurd this incident is. The fact that these teenage girls could possibly go to jail for three years breaks my heart. Morocco and other countries need to wake up and support LGBT. This relates to many things in the past with discrimination. In U.S. History this relates to discrimination against African American slaves.

  1. With time the discrimination will decrease it is just unfortunate that events like this have to take place so that more attention is brought to the issue and can be addressed.
