Summary: In this article, the author discusses teen suicide and the causes of it, which much relates back to the education system. Most suicide attempts happen under the age of 20 which is in the years of high school and early college, and that points fingers at the education system enforcing stress. There is pressure put on teens to know everything, have a great social life, be in extra curricular's, make straight A's, and much more that most adults aren't able to accomplish. This has become a major issue that people should not ignore.

Analysis/Synthesis: As most know Booker T. Washington lost a young, beautiful, talented, intelligent girl to suicide. As wonderful as Booker T. is there is a large amount of stress put on students beginning in freshman year, that even the brightest of people cannot overcome. Sure there are other things that cause suicide besides stress, but I do believe it's a leading factor. As an individual I know due to school I have lost the time to take care of myself, create a healthy diet and social life, and lose many hours of sleep studying or thinking about what's to come. People have to realize that we are all children still that want to go outside and play, and spend time laughing and sleeping, and without it we become very unhappy. A balance needed to be created, otherwise we will end up with another mass amount of deaths, except it will be caused from people's own hands.

  3. I agree. Teens are extremely pressured to know how to make good grades, participate in extracurriculars, have a social life, and know what they want to be when they grow up. We are still in our developmental stages of life, both physically and mentally.

  4. I totally agree. People always tell us "we were teenagers once too", which is true, butt in a completely different time period, with completely different lives and a different society. Adults need to realize that things have changed drastically for teenagers since they were young.

  5. I definitely agree. There is so much pressure put on students to be the best, and that takes a toll on a young life.
