Devyn Lemack- Single Mother Tries to Sell Food on Internet

A single mother of 6 could be jailed for up to a year because she shared homemade meals through a Facebook food group. Mariza Ruelas from Stockton, California was charged after a year-long investigation by county inspectors that ended with an undercover sting operation. Mariza as well as well as others in the Stockton area had been trading food, organizing potlucks, and sharing recipes on the 209 Food Spot Facebook page for several years, and not always even for money. Although there were several other people in this group of exchanging food and recipes, Mariza was the only one to get in trouble and threatened to go to jail. Quote from the mother of 6- "it was just unreal that they were saying that I could face up to a year in jail".

This article was written on November 9th, by Daniel Jennings. I honestly think this is sad, this was obviously a group of friends just trying to help each other out and none of them were trying to do anything wrong. You can really tell they were just giving each other food and recipes to be nice, because sometimes it wasn't even for money. By reading the lady's quote, she was obviously very upset and confused why they would send her to jail for a year. I do understand that it's not always good to sell things online, but at least let everybody get some of the beef. This poor lady got everything thrown at her. Before reading this I had never heard about it, but i think it is an interesting topic. This can relate to a man being arrested in 2014 for selling his girlfriend's food stamps online.

  2. It's crazy how something small taken in the wrong way can end someone up in jail, and especially unfair that she would be the only one facing repercussions.

  3. It's unfortunate how such a minor mistake can have severe consequences and sadly she's the only one who has deal with them.

  5. Me too, Mikenzie! I wonder what action through her Facebook group got her in this mess in the first place. I also believe that she was doing all of this for good, and to help her friends out! I hope that she does not end up enduring severe consequences!
