Daniela Gerson, a professor of journalism at California State University and current editor at the Los Angeles Times, speaks out about her students and their plans for creating awareness of the current violations of their rights. Gerson talks about her student Miguel who is an undocumented immigrant who fled from gang violence, but who is starting a great life in America. She expresses his passion and determination in creating a difference and how the election didn't go as he expected. Miguel now fears of deportation of him and his family. This was the case for many of her student, who are currently finding ways to make a difference of their own by creating posters and starting protests. Not only has this election caused emotional exhaustion for many, but also put fear in the hearts of those who are trying to start a better life.
The repercussions of the 2016 election are astonishing, affecting people of all ages and race. A leading argument is that not only are Trump's upcoming changes to immigration laws inhumane, but they throw off the morals of our country entirely. America is known as a free nation from the very beginning and not letting people obtain their rights is against what we stand for. I hope that Trump surprises us in a good way in the future and that things start to look up for people like Miguel.
