Qiaunci Jones- Making a Murderer.
Brendan Dassey was 16 when he was accused of helping his uncle, Steven Avery, rape and kill 25-year-old photographer Teresa Halbach, who vanished in November 2005, and dispose of her body in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin. Now, 11 years later Brendan Dassey was ordered released from prison Monday pending his appeal.
Brendan had a tv show based off him, "Making a Murdere." It's absolutely crazy how they convicted this boy with just "suspicious judgement" and assumed he helped. The author of this article seems to have a shock of how it took Dassey so long to become free. There has been a lot of cases where people get falsely convicted for crimes they did not do which looks bad on our judicial system. I'm just wondering if how he got out was because of the big media behind his case or the found actual evidence to help him.

If you're interested in wrongful conviction on weak grounds, I highly recommend that your read Bryan Stevenson's Just Mercy. I cried quite a few times. It is easy to be surprised by the lack of evidence presented in many cases against the accused, but it is not uncommon for people to end up on death row for circumstantial evidence or even evidence that id directly denied by witnesses.

ReplyDeleteI really like that show and I think there needs to be work in the justice system to make sure we do not criminalize the wrong people.
