Ciaja Beck 4th perod Suicide deaths on the rise in middle aged Americans

Summary:.Suicide rates among middle-aged Americans have risen sharply in the past decade, prompting concern that a generation of baby boomers who have faced years of economic worry and easy access to prescription painkillers may be particularly vulnerable to self-inflicted harm.Although most suicides are still committed using firearms, officials said there was a marked increase in poisoning deaths, which include intentional overdoses of prescription drugs, and hangings. Poisoning deaths were up 24 percent over all during the 10-year period and hangings were up 81 percent.

Analysis: Honestly this is sad because many lives are being taking a way. Recently my mother's friend grandmother committed suicide because she was tired of suffering. This broke my heart into pieces to imagine something this devastating to happen. Because the vast majority of our society define themselves based on their careers, and our society is a youth oriented one, loss of career in economic downturns rapidly follow loss of youth as it is easier, more economical to hire youth at a starting salary than to pay the salary of experience, leading to the cost of paying pensions.. That said, loss of career means loss of identity, status, respect, reason for being for many. Let's face it, we are a nation that despises poor people, treating them as if they have a character flaw.....otherwise they would not be poor. I'm not surprised at all of the rising suicide rate. We need to change America ! Wake up and do something http://www.cbsnews.com/news/suicide-rates-increase-dramatically-among-middle-aged-americans/

  2. This is devastating to hear. I hope this reminds everyone that a simple smile or wave can save a life and make someone feel they are special and wanted on earth.

  3. Kiri Luckey: This is awful! The main source of this is probably bullying. There is alot of bullying in middle and high school and its ridiculous and so tragic that it has people comitting suicide.

  4. it makes me sad to read this because of the number of people who have tried to commit suicide or actually done it. I think we should be as kind as we can to people we don't even know because we never know what they are going through and they could be having suicidal thoughts. let's turn those bad thoughts around by simply being nice and compassionate and hopefully we can prevent suicides that way.
