This Thursday, police in St. Petersburg, Florida have apprehended a 15-year-old girl after reports of her sending hundreds of threatening texts to three other girls her age. Most of them, death threats. The press has decided to conceal the girl's name from the face of the public due to her young age. The 15-year-old was charged with three counts of aggravated stalking, and another count of tampering with a witness, St. Petersburg police say.
The young girl claims that she has only sent "some of the texts" to the other girls, but is not responsible for all of them. However, the suspect admitted to sending a text saying "If this isn't bullying then I don't know what is". The suspect claims that at one point she was friends with her victims, but refuses to detail why her friendships failed. She was told by police detectives to stop harassing the three girls on Monday, but continued, leading to her arrest.
It is important that things like this stop. It is certainly not acceptable for texts to be sent with death threats. I think the police should have done something in between telling her to stop and arresting her, but I think it's good that steps are being taken to stop the bullying.

ReplyDeleteI sympathize with the girl being bullied, but could she not block the bully's number? I'm glad she went to the police and handled it in an acceptable manner instead of committing suicide like many other bullied teens. When will this whole bullying phase die out in America?
