Legalize it by Sam Smathers 4th

Legalize it

Commentary on “Watch Kids React to Gay Marriage” by James Hamblin from the Atlantic; Link: http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2013/11/watch-kids-react-to-gay-marriage/281151/

This article is more of commentary on a video. The video showed six or seven kids watching two gay marriage proposals on video. Each proposal was insanely cute, they asked in super creative funny ways that took obviously hours to coordinate and plan. The central purpose of the video was to show kids that had not been super exposed to gay marriage a proposal and see their reaction to the proposals and then ask them questions about how they feel about gay marriage. All but one kid was adamant that it needed to be legal, but one kid strongly opposed gay marriage. This kid had no reasons why he thought it should not be legal; he just thought that it shouldn’t be legal.
I think that this video aptly shows that there are really no good reasons to prevent gay marriage from being legal. There are numerous reasons why you can personally oppose legalization: tradition, religion, ignorance, but none of these reasons should prohibit the government that is supposed to be for the people, that is supposed to protect our freedom, a government that has declared to be separated on the basis of church and state from attempting to right this human rights disaster. The kids in the video related the negligence to passing gay marriage as the likes to the civil rights movement and the women’s rights movement. If the government can not get behind gay marriage, than the bulling and fear of coming out will haunt people in the closet until the day that they die. The madness needs to stop, legalize gay marriage.

P.S the video is on the link up top, watch it, it is very inspirational and such, and the kids are super cute

  1. I'm starting to think that anyone with a concept of what's right supports this.I guess there are still people who don't but that is changing. The video was cute.

  2. I saw this video a few days ago; it really shows where we could be heading in the near future. I am glad that people are so much more open to the concept of gay marriage and I hope to see it legalized soon.

  3. I agree that there are truly no valid reasons that state governments should refuse to marry same sex couples.

  4. Yeah I agree with you Meg. It's really confusing to try and think of why it's still illegal. No one is being hurt by gay or lesbian couples being together. But then I think about the American system as a whole and it all becomes crystal.
