In Scandinavia, Mehrdad Mahdjoubi, an industrial designer has started to spread the efficient ways of water recycling and preserving shower systems used by astronauts during orbit. The shower system, starting with the shower head, disperses water evenly at a strong pressure to create a more effective, resourceful head. The used water simply drains into a filter system where the already heated water is purified and ready to be pumped back up to the shower head. As a result, users of the system have saved up to 1000 dollars on water and electricity (for heating) bills while using only 5 litters during a 10 minuet shower as opposed to the wasteful 150 litters used in basic, filter-less showers all around the world. The amazingly efficient system has only been tested in areas of Scandinavia however investors such as other industrial designers say " the product could be a culture" and plan on expanding the simple yet effective system as soon as possible.
As a huge fan of industrial design, i am extremely thrilled to see such a simple system and elegant product receive so much positive attention. Products such as the water efficient shower system sell themselves thus validating themselves as truly useful products. Hopefully, well designed objects such as the shower system will continue to work their ways past the basic consumer economy and become a tool or utensil to the average house or bathroom as products of the same caliber can dramatically improve quality of life on a universal level. I am excited to see this eco-conscious product expand global and become a marketable installation system.
