Wealthy parents, actresses, coaches, among those charged in massive college admissions scandal, federal prosecutors say -- Mary Kate Madden

On March 12, 2019, the Justice Department charged 50 people as part of a scheme to get kids accepted into elite colleges. These include actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin. These parents allegedly paid somebody between $200,000 to $6.5 million to let their kids into college. He bribed test administrators to change kids' answers after the SAT and paying someone to take standardized tests for them. He also lied about kids' ethnicities to work the affirmative action programs. Out of the 50 people charged, 33 are parents, 2 are exam administrator, and a couple are coaches. No students or schools have been charged. Many of the kids didn't even know it was happening.

This is important because it shows that admissions process in the US has gotten too competitive, even when playing fair. It shows clearly that being rich definitely helps people, keeping opportunities and money within families that already have it. I think it will be very important in US history later.

  1. These parents have created a whole elaborate system into getting their kids into college which is absolutely wrong but slightly impressive.

  2. That is a terrible thing to hear that the admission process is biased.
